Teacher detained on molestation charge
A teacher in north China’s Hebei Province has been detained by police for allegedly molesting young boys and holding them against their will, Beijing Times reported yesterday.
Li Jian, a teacher at the Xuanhua County No. 1 Middle School in Zhangjiakou, was taken into custody after being reported by the parents of a 16-year-old boy, who claimed he had been repeatedly molested over the past three years.
The alleged abuse came to light after the boys’ parents noticed their son was acting strangely and decided to take him to hospital for a checkup, the report said.
“His eyes looked dull, and his reactions were slow. Just like a fool,” his father was quoted as saying.
At the hospital the boy told a doctor about the abuse. The doctor said the boy was suffering from depression.
The child said he was first molested by Li at the age of 13, while on a 10-day military training course with a group of other boys the same age.
Li allegedly drove several of them from the school dormitory to his home using the excuse that they were being punished for breaking course rules, the report said.
At the teacher’s home, the boys were forced to watch videos of other children being molested by Li. The youngsters all had their hands cuffed behind their backs, the report said.
On other occasions, boys were told to visit Li at his home and made to sign a deal agreeing not to tell anyone what had happened, it said.
Li allegedly threatened them that if they reported him he would upload images of them being molested to the Internet.
The boy at the center of the case said that in April he and another youngster were forced into the trunk of a car by Li who then drove them to his home and molested them.
“My wife passed out when she found out what our boy had suffered,” the father said.
When the father took his complaint to the school on April 29, officials dismissed his claims, the report said.
The boy’s parents later complained to the education bureau of Xuanhua County and when they received no reply went to police on May 9.
Li was detained on May 13 and the case is being investigated.
