Teacher helps mother recover deleted voice mails from dead son

A computer science teacher from northwest China has helped a mother to recover the deleted data, including voice messages of her dead son, in her mobile phone.

The 25-year-old teacher, known by her nickname "Wan Zi," managed to use her skills to help the mother, Wang Guolan, a street cleaner in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, to hear the voice of her son again after he died of leukemia last year, a Xinjiang news website, Iyaxin.com, reported today.

Wan Zi said that what she did was "meaningful." She came to Wang's help after reading her sad story online. Wang appealed for public help to find her lost phone as it contained her son's last recordings. Microbloggers tweeted the message on Weibo.com, enabling police to recover the mobile phone for her. But it turned out that the man who picked up her phone had deleted all the messages on the phone.

The 44-year-old sanitation worker said the mobile phone was a "consolation" to her.
