Teacher rapes girl, 12

POLICE in south China's Guangzhou Province have detained a primary school teacher for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl after spiking her drink with sleeping pills.

The 40-year-old teacher surnamed Huang asked the girl to do her homework at his dormitory some months ago, Guangzhou Daily reported yesterday.

During the so-called "special lesson," he talked her into imbibing a drink he said would improve brain power. The girl said she felt dizzy and fell unconscious after drinking.

When the girl woke, Huang had already raped her and said what he did was a "special exercise" to make the medicine take effect.

The girl said at least three girls in her class were sexually assaulted by Huang, who was called a "liar" by students.

The girl told the story in tears to Guangzhou Daily on Wednesday night.

One parent who declined to give his name said his daughter was also forced to have a private talk at Huang's dormitory.

The father felt uncertain about the meeting but said nothing because Huang was highly praised for his teaching techniques.

The school authorities had previously received complaints of sexual harassment against Huang, but they could not confirm the girl's account due to lack of evidence.

Police are still investigating the case.
