Teacher rips girl's ear for chewing gum
A PRIMARY school teacher in south China's Guangdong Province has been accused of tearing the ear of a 6-year-old girl who chewed gum at class, resulting in five stitches.
The Wenkang School teacher in Shenzhen City failed to send the girl to hospital immediately despite the bleeding, which resulted in infection, the girl's mother surnamed Wang told today's Southern Metropolis Daily newspaper.
Her daughter was chewing gum in at class last Thursday when the teacher surnamed Peng ordered her to quit, classmates told the newspaper. When she did not, Peng tore the girl's ear until it bled and the girl fainted, they alleged.
The teacher allegedly told school officials that the girl fainted because she was over-starved. The school has refused the parents' demands of 60,000 yuan (US$8,788) compensation.
