Teacher survives having her throat cut in elevator by unknown attacker
A WOMAN teacher had her throat cut twice by a man who followed her into an elevator in Lanzhou in Gansu Province yesterday morning but she survived the attack and the man escaped, Lanzhou Morning Post reported today.
The 29-year-old teacher, surnamed Hou, is out of danger after treatment at a hospital, the report said.
Hou, a substitute teacher at training school, arrived at her school’s building about 7:45am yesterday headed for the 10th floor.
A man of about 30 got into the elevator behind her, and when the elevator started to move, he pushed her to the floor. Hou tried to resist, but the man took out a knife and made two cuts. One cut, the longest, was 4 to 5 centimeters. While the cuts were bloody, the attacker missed major arteries and veins.
The elevator went up but nobody was there, so they descended to the first floor again, where Hou climbed out into the arms of a colleague. The attacker took the elevator up to the third floor and escaped.
The teachers said they were too terrified to call for help right away, but the colleague took Hou to the hospital.
Hou said she didn’t know the attacker, and he didn’t rob her of the carry-on bag and the mobile phone she had with her, according to the report. Police are investigating.
