Teacher to be detained

A FEMALE kindergarten teacher will be detained 10 days and fined 500 yuan (US$75) for burning seven students with an iron in Xinghua City, Jiangsu Province, police said over the weekend.
The 30-year-old teacher surnamed Yi, who worked at Banqiao Kindergarten, burned seven children in the face with an electric iron because they were talking in class last Tuesday.
The kindergarten said it fired the teacher on Saturday, Yangtze Evening Post reported.
Two of the children were already back in school while two were taken by their parents to Shanghai's Ruijin Hospital for treatment on Friday. The kindergarten's head accompanied them to Shanghai and gave each family 3,000 yuan for medical expenses, the report said.
The burns on the children's faces are conspicuous, reported Shanghai Evening Post yesterday. One boy has wounds on his cheekbone and chin while the other boy has a "coin-sized" wound on each cheek.
"The wounds will heal in about three weeks in each case, but they will very likely leave scars," Dr Xun Jingning with Ruijin Hospital told the newspaper.
