Teams of inspectors check work safety
The State Council’s work safety committee has sent 31 teams of inspectors to check that rules are being followed in provincial-level regions.
Their findings will factor into local government annual performance assessments, according to the State Administration of Work Safety.
Inspectors will visit local governments to address work safety problems and pay random visits to key enterprises, said Fu Jianhua, the administration’s deputy head.
Local governments and departments will be held accountable if local checks fail to discover major work-safety hazards in companies, or if local authorities do not punish companies after major problems are detected, Fu said.
Despite regular demands for more focus on work safety, frequent tragedies occur.
However, the number of work-safety accidents fell 24.7 percent year on year in the January-July period, while fatalities fell 16.8 percent.
