Teams to inspect water law in practice
China’s top legislature will carry out a nationwide inspection of the implementation of the Water Pollution Prevention and Control Law.
Four or five teams will carry out inspections across the country in May and June, the water pollution prevention and control committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee said yesterday.
They will visit Inner Mongolia, Heilongjiang, Anhui, Shandong, Hubei and Guangxi provinces, among other places, it said.
They will inspect how water resources are being protected, pollutant discharges, the legal system for permitting pollutants and pollution prevention measures for major rivers.
In other regions, provincial-level legislators will conduct research into the prevention and control of water pollution.
In August, the NPC Standing Committee will hear and review the various reports.
A string of water pollution incidents have occurred in recent years.
Chen Changzhi, vice chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, said inspections for the enforcement of the Water Pollution Prevention and Control Law will promote an anti-pollution drive.
