Temple Wants Trademark
THE Shaolin Temple has filed a lawsuit in Beijing appealing against a decision by China's Trademark Appeal Board that prevents them using "Shaolin Medicine" as a trademark on food.
The board said this would mislead consumers to expect medical effects, China News Service reported.
The temple told Beijing No. 1 Intermediate People's Court that the trademark had been used for more than 700 years without legal protection, and it wanted to end that situation and register the brand.
