Temple burns down in Taiyuan

REPLICA of an ancient Buddhist temple in Taiyuan, capital of Shanxi Province, was ruined in a blaze that started around midnight.

One person trapped inside the building was rescued.

The temple was destroyed in less than 1 hour and authorities said it remained unclear what caused the fire.

Officials said 160 firefighters were dispatched to put out the blaze.

The Fulong Temple was built during the Northern Qi Dynasty (550-577 AD). The replica was built by villagers in 2008, local officials said.
