Temple fury at ‘womanizing abbot’ claim

Claims that Shaolin Temple’s Shi Yongxin faked ID, fooled around with women and had children and grandchildren have been dismissed by the temple as a “vicious slander” on the 1,500-year-old institution and its abbot.

Police are investigating the allegations, according to the Southern Metropolis Daily.

In an online post, Shi Zhengyi, who claims to be a former Shaolin monk, called Shi Yongxin a “womanizing abbot” who had sex relations with at least four women.

He alleged that in 1990 Shi Yongxin paid Guan Lili to sleep with him and made her his lover. They had a daughter and two grandchildren.

He also alleged that the abbot lived with Shi Yanjie, a 43-year-old nunnery head, and the couple had a 6-year-old daughter. He made each of them a fake ID in his hometown in east China’s Anhui Province, it is alleged.

Shi also claimed the abbot raped a nun in 1988 and committed adultery with a woman who aborted their baby.

“Representing all of the Shaolin monks, I stand out to unmask Shi Yongxin who widely plays around women, siphons off the temple assets and profanes Shaolin,” Shi Zhengyi said. “I plead with the central government, local authorities and legal departments to root Shi Yongxin out to return a clean Shaolin.”

However, the temple’s Shaolin Intangible Assets Management Co Ltd said the allegations were fabricated and the temple had enlisted the help of the police to “find out the truth.”

Shi Yongxin has often attracted controversy over commercial activities he says are needed to preserve the temple.
