Third reading for law on releasing animals into wild
A revised draft of China’s Wild Animal Protection Law to regulate the release of captive animals into the wild was submitted to the NPC standing committee yesterday for a third reading.
Any organization or individual releasing captive animals should choose indigenous species fit to survive in the wild, and the release should have no impact on local people or harm the ecosystem, the draft says.
Anyone who frees captive animals in a reckless manner and thus damages property, causes physical injury, or jeopardizes the ecosystem, will be held accountable.
The draft also provides that agencies involved should disclose information regarding the issue of documents used for the hunting, captive breeding, sale, purchase and use of protected wild animals.
In a report, the NPC’s Law Committee said the draft “improves the country’s wild animal protection and regulation systems, properly manages the relationship between protection and utilization, balances views of all parties and addresses public concerns.”
It suggested it be put to a vote in the current session.
