Thousands attend hero driver's funeral

Senior government officials and thousands of ordinary citizens attended the funeral service this morning for a bus driver who saved 24 passengers in his last moments of life.
Wu Bin, a 48-year-old driver in Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang Province, was hit by a flying metal last Tuesday as he was driving on a highway near Wuxi, Jiangsu Province. He died of his wounds last Friday despite rescue efforts.
The metal from a broken drum brake on a vehicle driving on the opposite lane flew toward his bus, shattered the windshield and hit his chest. Enduring great pains, Wu pulled the bus to the roadside, applied the parking brake, turned on hazard lights and told passengers to evacuate orderly before passing out.
Zhang Jianting, vice mayor of Hangzhou, hosted the funeral.
Feng Zhenglin, vice minister of transportation, Wang Jianman, deputy governor of Zhejiang Province, and Hangzhou Mayor Shao Zhanwei were among the people at the funeral.
