Thousands of aftershocks follow in wake of 7.0-magnitude quake

A total of 3,667 aftershocks had been recorded as of 4pm yesterday, the China Earthquake Administration said. There were 101 aftershocks above 3.0-magnitude, including four between 5.0 and 5.9 and 21 with a magnitude between 4.0 and 4.9.
Zhou Rongjun, an official with the local earthquake administration, said that the aftershocks were more numerous than after most other quakes with a 7.0-magnitude.
But he predicted that there would be fewer than had followed in the wake of the devastating Wenchuan earthquake in the province in 2008.
