Thousands of residents suffer water cuts
THOUSANDS of residents in an east China city are lining up in a park to get drinking water as a burst pipe cut supply to the downtown area two days ago.
Residents in Taizhou City, Zhejiang Province, suffered cuts when a pipe at Changtan Reservoir burst on Sunday night, today's City Express newspaper reported.
Repairs are underway on the pipe and supply is expected to resume later today, according to the city's water company.
Company officials said the pipe has been in use for 15 years and was liable to burst.
While bottled water is selling fast at local stores, thousands of people are lining up at Jiufeng Park to take well water for drinking and cooking.
Many people are washing clothes in the river, according to a woman surnamed Yan living by the river in Huangyan District.
Car-washing services have been suspended across Taizhou.
People described their life without water in the summer heat. Some said they dare not drink water to avoid the smelly toilets, which can't be flushed.
