Three arrested for faking dog bites, then demanding payments from owners
POLICE in Harbin, capital of northern China’s Heilongjiang Province, detained three suspects who they say pretended to be bitten by a dog and extorted payment of medical expenses from the dog’s owner on the evening of June 10, the Heilongjiang Morning Post reported today.
Police in the city’s Xiangfang District had received reports from residents since mid-June that a gang purposely made small cuts on their legs and kicked the dogs when their owners were absent. When the owners showed up, they claimed to have been bitten by the dogs and demanded compensation.
Police followed three suspects and caught them on site when they tried the fraudulent action again on June 10. They confessed that they had extorted funds from ten dog owners by such practices in Xiangfang and Daoli districts.
Names of the suspects were not given.
