Three detained for running onto airport tarmac

THREE people were detained for rushing on to the parking apron at Guangzhou Baiyun Airport yesterday, ycwb.com reported today.

The plane, which was bound for Sanya in Hainan Province, was scheduled to take off at 8:20pm, however a thunderstorm and strong wind delayed the flight, the report said.

Around midnight, two female passengers, surnamed Zhou and Li, exited the plane with 20 other passengers despite warnings from flight attendants. Airport security guards were called in to round up the passengers, who returned to the plane to wait out the delay, according to the report.

One hour later, Zhou and Li encouraged others to head to the tarmac and shouted: "Come on. Let's go!" interfering in airport operations and endangering the safety of themselves and others, the report said.

Police were cited as saying Zhou and Li will be detained for 20 days while one other passenger will be detained for 10 days.
