Tighter rules on parcel delivery
Chinese people must register their names when handing parcels in for delivery after authorities tightened safety inspections following multiple mail bombs.
The move is part of a campaign by authorities including the Ministry of Public Security and State Administration of Work Safety, to strengthen the management at delivery services around the country.
Delivery service staff must also check goods before packaging, and all envelopes and parcels must go through an X-ray machine.
On September 30 and October 1, several explosions were caused by letter bombs at different places in Liucheng County in south China鈥檚 Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
They killed at least seven people and injured dozens of others.
Police arrested a 33-year-old suspect surnamed Wei who they said had hired others to help him deliver the letter bombs.
The office will also tighten supervision over the production, transport, sale, storage and use of explosives and dangerous goods, officials said.
On August 12, two explosions ripped through a warehouse in north China鈥檚 Tianjin Port, where large amounts of toxic chemicals were stored. The final death toll was put at 173.
