Toddler, alone with dead grandma for 7 days, recovers well

THE two-year-old girl who was found barely breathing and lying in the arms of her dead grandmother for seven days is recovering well and will be discharged from the hospital today.
Medical check showed the toddler named Mengru is healthy enough to leave the Xiangya No. 2 Hospital in Changsha, central Hunan Province, the local Sanxiang Morning Post reported today.
Mengru received 25,000 yuan (US$3,922) in donations after her ordeal was reported by the media. Her father Xiao Kaiquan said he would donate some of the money to other children in need.
The girl was found still alive in the arms of her grandmother who died of illness seven days before on September 27 and her body had started to decompose in their village home in Shuangfeng County. Her parents and grandpa, all migrant workers in Changsha, felt something was wrong as their phone calls went unanswered for seven days.
When they rushed home, they found the girl lying on the floor next to her grandmother and maggots had crawled from the decomposing body to the girl. She suffered skin infection, dehydration and hunger.
