Top cop sacked after disciplinary breaches
A TOP police officer in a northwest China city has been sacked after being convicted of serious disciplinary breaches in an investigation sparked by complaints from his colleagues.
As part of the punishment, Wang Guangfu, vice director of Hanzhong City's Public Security Bureau, Shaanxi Province, has been placed on probation within the Party for two years, China News Service reported today, citing the city's publicity department.
Wang had played favorites and committed dereliction of duty during his tenure as the police chief, the department said.
A special group was set up on January 29 to investigate 11 accusations against Wang after three police officers jointly lodged complaints.
The case aroused public controversy as the three officers posted the accusations online using their real names and ranks as well as personal information of others involved to show their confidence in the truth.
The accusations, including alleged rape of an underage girl, concerned the period between November 2003 and August 2009, before Wang was promoted from director of Hanzhong police's Hantai branch.
