Top student stays qualified
THE student who obtained the top marks in this year's national college entrance examination in southwest China will keep his qualification for enrollment to universities, though he has been denied extra points for his ethnic status, education authority of Chongqing Municipality said today.
He Chuanyang, who attended Nankai Senior High School, scored 659 points, the highest in Chongqing Municipality. He could have had an extra 20 points if local authorities had not uncovered false data about his ethnicity in his examination records.
Because the falsified data was detected, no extra points were obtained, the education authority told Cqnews.net, the local news portal.
His parents have been punished as they had approved the change of their son's ethnic status from Han to Tujia ethnicity, a minority ethnic group.
The junior He knew nothing about the change.
