Township official held on corruption charges

A township boss in central Henan Province is being probed for allegedly squandering public funds on a lavish government building, Xinhua News Agency reported today.
Zhao Zhiyang, Party secretary of Minggang Town, was accused of violating the Party disciplines and spending 30 million yuan (US$4.75 million) to build an imposing 7,964-square-meter office building, 1,500 square meters larger than the approved design.
Disciplinary authorities in Xingyang, a city that governs Minggang, said Zhao was also found involved in other corruption cases and the investigation is ongoing.
