Toxic water now decontaminated
Authorities say toxic water left at the site of the Tianjin explosions has now been decontaminated, according to a report in China Environment News yesterday.
After the blasts, the city’s environmental protection bureau shut off the local water system. Levels of highly toxic cyanogen now meet safety standards, the newspaper said.
Meanwhile, discarded containers and vehicles have been washed and disinfected, and will receive further treatment. Another 100,000 square meters of construction waste and chemical waste has also been treated. Work is ongoing to flush out any remaining contamination.
