Trade union probes miner's injury claim

SICHUAN Trade Union has launched an investigation after a media report of a miner who said he will cut his chest open to prove he has occupational lung disease.

His employer, Weiyuan County Jinxin Energy Co Ltd, has refused to compensate him for his disease as an examination result by a local medical center contradicted a provincial center's, today's Southwest China Metropolis Daily reported.

Wang Chengzhang, a native of the province's Renshou County, was diagnosed as "healthy" at the local Weiyuan County Diseases Control and Prevention Center, while his condition was ruled to be an occupational lung disease at Sichuan Province Disease Control and Prevention Center in June.

The health bureau of Neijiang City said the county-level center's conclusion must follow the superior provincial center's.

The county's workplace safety authority also said it will coordinate with the company and the medical centers to solve the problem.

The company said it has organized the medical checkup and been active in taking responsibility for its ill employees, according to official Peng Zhengquan. It has already compensated workers diagnosed with occupational diseases, Peng added.
