Traffic controls will be reduced on officials' trips
THE Ministry of Public Security has ordered police around the country to reduce road closures and minimize traffic controls when government officials are on work trips.
In response to the central authority's latest call to fight formalism and bureaucracy, the ministry said in a circular made public yesterday that the moves are designed to "avoid inconveniencing the public wherever possible."
Police officers are encouraged to step up inspections and research so as to better solve problems of major public concern, according to a statement from the ministry's traffic management bureau.
Efforts should also be made to better educate police to curb formalism and bureaucracy at various levels, it said.
The ministry also asked its traffic management staff to address inconvenient, opaque and nonstandard practices in law enforcement to ensure justice and equality.
The arrangement is in response to requirements announced after a meeting of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee earlier this week.
