Trafficking suspect held
POLICE have caught a third suspect from their top 10 list of human traffickers.
Zhang Weizhu, 35, a native of Yunnan Province, was seized on Wednesday in Jiangmen City in Guangdong Province, China National Radio reported yesterday.
Zhang is said to have been involved in 10 child smuggling cases solved by Jiangmen police between February 12 and March 12 this year. Eleven children were rescued and nine suspects arrested.
Zhang is the third suspect the police have caught after it published a nationwide wanted notice for 10 human traffickers on April 29.
The first arrested was Wei Jiapei, 28, a native of Shandong Province. He was detained on May 8 in Jiangsu Province's Jingjiang City after snatching a baby boy from a passerby on July 30, 2006 in Cangshan County. He later sold the baby to a woman in Shandong's Zaozhuang City.
Jiangsu police grabbed the second man, Jiangsu native Wang Ying, 54, on May 8. Wang was allegedly involved in the trafficking of several children.
Police have solved 312 cases of child trafficking and 270 cases of women trafficking since the nationwide campaign began in April, setting free some 360 children and 450 women.
