Tragedy hits again: 2 girls die of suffocation on school bus

Two four-year-old girls in Jingzhou, central China's Hubei Province were found dead in a school bus yesterday after being left and locked in the bus for eight hours, the Wuhan Evening News reported today.

Bus driver He Zhengkun and a kindergarten teacher have been detained by police, the report said.

The two young girls, Peng Yiwen and Chen Qingxue, were picked up from their homes around 8:30am yesterday. After reaching the kindergarten, the teacher, Tan Zuhong, brought the children to different classrooms but forgot to check if anyone was left on the bus.

The two girls were locked in the bus for eight hours and died of suffocation, the report said.

It was not until 4:30pm, the driver found Peng and Chen lying under the back seats of the bus. He rushed them to the hospital but it was too late to save their lives.

The newspaper said the girls' parents were migrant workers who were rushing back to Jingzhou after the tragic accident.

Last month, two similar cases were reported in the country's Anhui and Hainan provinces, in which two three-year-olds, a boy and a girl, died of suffocation after being locked in a school bus.
