Tragedy of an 'innocent' man
A man executed 15 years ago for rape and murder in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region was probably innocent, yesterday's Yangcheng Evening News reported.
Hugejile Tu, 18, was executed in June 1996 for the rape and murder of a woman in Hohhot, Inner Mongolian's capital, in April the same year.
In January 2007, it was reported that Zhao Zhihong, who was arrested in 2005 for the rape and murder of 27 women, confessed that he had killed the woman.
The Supreme People's Court ordered the Inner Mongolia Higher Court to investigate the case in 2007 but no further progress has been reported since then.
