Train derailment kills 11 in Inner Mongolia
ELEVEN people were confirmed dead and three others injured in a train derailment at a railway construction site in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region yesterday morning.
This morning a spokesperson with the railway department of Hohhot, the regional capital, confirmed the death toll and revised number of the injured to three, which earlier report said was one.
The accident happened at around 9 am when a train carrying stones, which were used to pave the railroad, derailed at the construction site. The new 85-km line is to link Inner Mongolia's Baotou to Mandalt, a border town near neighboring Mongolia.
The three injured people have been hospitalized.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
