Train travel to surge during Tomb-sweeping Day holiday
CHINA'S railway authorities expect train trips in the country to hit 41.08 million during the four-day travel rush for Tomb-sweeping Day on Monday.
The number would be an increase of 12.3 percent compared to the corresponding period last year, according to the China Railway data.
The travel peak is expected to occur on Saturday, the second day of the travel rush, when train travel could reach 11.8 million, an increase of 1.33 million compared to the corresponding day last year.
More travellers have access to high-speed trains thanks to visible network expansion.
Railway authorities have temporarily prolonged the operating time for online ticketing systems and travellers can check vacant seat information and book tickets at www.12306.cn half an hour before departure time.
Tomb-sweeping Day, or Qingming Festival, is the most important occasion for Chinese to honor their ancestors.
