Travel agencies change itineraries in wake of deadly Bangkok blast

Chinese travel agencies are changing itineraries to avoid dangerous areas in Thailand following the Bangkok explosion that killed at least 21 people, including four Chinese tourists.

Online travel operator Ctrip said its tour groups would avoid Erawan Shrine at Ratchaprasong intersection. The blast occurred at the shrine, a popular tourist attraction in downtown Bangkok. It said it had informed its customers to stay far from the area of the explosion and strongly recommended they stay in their hotels at night.

Ctrip said it has 2,950 tourists in Bangkok now, all of whom are safe. The travel agency said it would give a full refund to tourists who booked accommodation in Bangkok between today and Friday.

Online travel agency Tongcheng said it has informed its tour guides to adjust tour itineraries and avoid the area of the explosion as well as dangerous areas where there are rallies and protests.

Shanghai Spring Tour said it has asked its tour guides to take tourists far from the explosion area.

Tours to Thailand have not been suspended and the China National Tourism Administration did not issue a warning.
