Travel agencies suspend trips to Kyushu following powerful earthquake
TRAVEL agencies have suspended organized trips to Kyushu or offering a full refund for travelers who want to cancel already booked tours to the southwestern island of Japan following another powerful earthquake at midnight.
They also warned tourists to avoid visiting the island recently.
Online travel operator Ctrip has suspended tour groups to Kyushu for safety concerns, and issued a warning on trips to the island.
It also informed tour guides to cancel stops including Kumamoto and make proper adjustment on scheduled tours.
It has about 200 tourists in Kyushu and all of them are safe.
Tuniu, another online travel agency, suggested tourists planning to visit Kyushu be cautious and said it will cover the loss resulting from the cancelation of orders.
The free cancelation policy also applies to hotel orders in Kumamoto between today and April 22, it said.
It has 866 tourists who are scheduled to visit Kyushu in the following week.
Travel agency Tongcheng has also adjusted routes with potential safety hazards in Japan.
As of 10am, China Southern Airlines and Air China have announced they would offer full refund or free change of date on air tickets from China to Fukuoka scheduled between Friday and April 22 and April 30 respectively.
Japan remains one of the most popular overseas destinations of Chinese tourists. Last year, about 5 million Chinese tourists visited Japan, and insiders expected the twin earthquake will affect Japan's tourism recently.
