Travel firms take S. Korea off the menu after warning
CHINESE travel agencies including Tuniu, Tongcheng and Alitrip have started taking South Korean tours off their shelves after the China National Tourism Administration issued an announcement on Friday, reminding Chinese citizens to be cautious visiting the country.
There has been a significant increase in cases of Chinese citizens being refused entry to Jeju Island in South Korea, the announcement said.
China has complained to the South Korean Embassy, the Korean Cultural Center and the South Koran Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
The tourism administration reminds Chinese citizens to be cautious when choosing destinations and says they should contact the nearest Chinese embassy or consulate immediately if they get into trouble. It also says they should keep documentation for any further legal action.
All tour products to South Korea have been deleted on the websites of Tuniu, Tongcheng and Alitrip, the travel arm of Alibaba, the operators told Shanghai Daily.
