Tremors rumble through northwest China
THE powerful earthquake that struck northern Afghanistan yesterday was also felt in several parts of northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
People in Kashgar, Hotan, Aksu and Kizilsu, all in the south of the region, said they ran out of their homes after feeling the ground shake.
There have been no reports of casualties or property damage, however, officials said.
“First, we felt a minor quake, then a stronger one. People rushed out of buildings,” said Kashgar resident Feng Zhuoyi.
“Chairs and lamps in my office started shaking, and people felt dizzy,” she said.
