Trial date for former justice head
A FORMER top police official in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality will face trial next Tuesday, the city's Higher People's Court said yesterday. Wen Qiang, former head of the Municipal Justice Bureau, is accused of rape, bribery and protecting gangs.
The 54-year-old Chongqing native will be tried in the same court where his sister-in-law, Xie Caiping, was jailed for 20 years for her involvement in Chongqing's underworld.
Wen's wife, Zhou Xiaoya, will stand trial with her husband for taking bribes. She helped police find 20 million yuan her husband is said to have hidden after police showed her a video of him visiting underage prostitutes.
Three of Wen's subordinates, Huang Daiqiang, Zhao Liming and Chen Tao, will also be tried at the No. 5 Intermediate People's Court.
