Tributes To Hong Kong's Fallen Hero
HONG Kong residents crowded into a downtown funeral home yesterday to pay their last respects to the city's fallen hero, Wong Fuk-wing, a volunteer who lost his life saving others in the earthquake in Yushu, Qinghai Province.
A three-hour public memorial service was held at the Universal Funeral Parlor in Kowloon.
Wong, a 46-year-old truck driver who had survived the magnitude-7.1 quake in Yushu last month, died in a powerful aftershock after he returned to try to rescue victims trapped at the orphanage where he worked as a volunteer.
He died after rescuing three orphans and a teacher. The four were at yesterday's service.
