Tricycle cabbie saves 74 from mudslide
A local tricycle cabbie was hailed as a hero in the landslides-hit Zhouqu County after he converted his tricycle into a raft and paddled it to rescue 74 people trapped in landslide and flash floods.
Wang Mingchang escaped the mudslide himself which swept his village in Zhouqu's Panjiang Town, northwestern Gansu Province, and toppled his two-storey house early Sunday morning.
Shortly afterwards when he saw many people screaming for help on their house roofs, he started to convert his tricycle in a draft. He removed the three wheels and strengthened the wooden cab with a rope.
The raft can only hold two people at one time. Wang paddled back and forth in the mud flow to carry a total of 74 stranded villagers out of the mud, reported Yangcheng Evening News today.
