Truck driver detained over death of Hangzhou's bus hero
POLICE in Wuxi, eastern Jiangsu Province said they have detained the driver of a truck that killed a bus driver last week when a piece of metal from its broken drum brake hit Wu Bin on a highway near Wuxi last week.
The 48-year-old bus driver died last Friday and was honored as a martyr by his home city Hangzhou in Zhejiang Province for saving 24 passengers after he was fatally wounded.
Senior officials and tens of thousands of Hangzhou citizens attended his funeral on Tuesday.
The unidentified truck driver was located in Yichun, Jiangxi Province and has been brought back to Wuxi for further investigation, Wuxi police said.
Preliminary investigation shows a 3.5kg metal from a broken drum brake killed Wu and police found a red truck, one of the nine suspect vehicles that passed the road section when the accident occurred, just had a drum brake replaced on June 1.
