Tsinghua removes vandalized donor's plate for repair

A protester sprayed paint on the name plate of a Chinese fashion brand on the fa?ade of Tsinghua University building, forcing the school to remove the plate on Wednesday, a campus paper reported today.

Tsinghua, a prestigious Beijing university that just celebrated its centennial last month, hit the headlines this week when it named the building after Jeanswest, a popular domestic brand of casual clothing. Many students blamed the practice too commercial.

A plate reading "Jeanswest Building" in Chinese and English was attached to the No. 4 building on the campus on Monday. There was another plate that noted the company's contributions to education.

Huang Jianhua, vice president of the Tsinghua University Education Foundation, said the plate was removed for fixing after a student spayed paint on it on Tuesday night, the Qingxin Times reported.
