Tufts 'deeply concerned' over trial allegations
MASSACHUSETTS-BASED Tufts University is investigating the US-China joint research project accused of using Chinese children to test genetically modified rice, a spokeswoman said.
"We are in the process of conducting a thorough review of the protocols followed in this research to ensure that the strictest standards were adhered to," Andrea Grossman, assistant director of public relations at the university, said. "Tufts University is deeply concerned by recent allegations about research conducted in China in 2008."
She said the university "respects laws, regulations and cultures of all countries in which our researchers work or collaborate. China is no exception."
