Twelve trapped in Shanxi mine flood
TWELVE miners remain trapped in a flooded coal mine in the city of Jincheng in north China's Shanxi Province, the country's top safety watchdog said on Sunday.
Ninety-four miners were working underground when the accident occurred around 11 p.m. on Saturday. Some 82 miners have been rescued, while 12 others remain trapped, the State Administration of Work Safety said in a statement on its website.
The mine is operated by a local state-owned coal company with an annual production capacity of 900,000 tonnes.
Local authorities were asked to do everything possible to rescue trapped miners and pinpoint the cause of the accident. Anyone responsible for the accident must be held accountable.
