Twin cubs born in Sichuan giant panda breeding center

A giant panda gave birth to twin cubs yesterday in a breeding center in the southwestern province of Sichuan, the first twin panda cubs born in captivity this year.

The 12-year-old Ximei delivered the first twin at 4:47am and the second twin 26 minutes later at the Wolong Giant Panda Protection and Research Center, Sichuan Daily reported.

Ximei cuddled the cubs in her fury arms immediately after they were born.

Her keeper later took the younger twin, a female, to a nursery. It weighed 154.2 grams.

Ximei gave birth to twin cubs twice in 2005 and 2006 and delivered another baby in 2009.
