Two Zhejiang women detained for spreading false typhoon rumors

Two women have been detained for spreading false rumors online during typhoon Fitow, Yuyao City police said today in Zhejiang Province.

The women surnamed Zhang and Tang posted online that the city’s Lubu Reservoir had collapsed in a flood, killing more than 40 people.

Nearly 70 percent of the city was flooded yesterday due to torrential rain from the typhoon. Traffic was paralyzed and the power went out in many parts of the city, according to the local flood control office.

Zhang will be detained for five days and Tang for three, the local government said.
