Two confirmed dead after east China bridge collapse
RESCUERS have retrieved the bodies of two men who were reported missing after a bridge collapsed Sunday in the eastern province of Jiangxi, local authorities said Tuesday.
The two victims were among eight workers who were dismantling the bridge Sunday morning. All eight plunged into Ganjiang River when the bridge collapsed, according to a press release issued by the emergency rescue headquarters of Taihe County government.
The search continues for one worker.
Five men escaped with slight injuries.
The 828-meter bridge was built in the early 1990s. Workers were sent to dismantle the bridge in August, as a 2012 inspection concluded it needed repairs.
