Two more chartered planes to evacuate Chinese from Libya

ANOTHER two China Eastern Airlines planes took off from Shanghai today morning to pick up Chinese nationals evacuated to Malta from the unrest-hit Libya.

MU 700 took off from the Hongqiao Airport at 10:15am and MU 299 took off from the Pudong International Airport at 10:30am, according to a spokesman with the company.

Earlier chartered plane, MU 268, left Shanghai for Malta yesterday. It left Malta at around 3:27am today, carrying 272 Chinese nationals, including a baby, evacuated from Libya, and is expected to arrive at the Pudong airport in Shanghai at around 2:10pm today.

Another chartered plane of the company, MU 266, left Malta at 5:23am today, with 278 evacuees aboard, and is expected to arrive at the Hongqiao airport at 4:15pm today.

As of the coming Monday, the company will dispatch at least four chartered planes every day to Malta to pick up Chinese evacuees. The returned planes will land in Shanghai or Beijing.

At least 16,000 Chinese nationals evacuated from Libya have returned.
