Two passengers fight on flight, causing plane to return to Beijing airport
BEIJING police held two male passengers at the Beijing airport this morning who had had a brawl on a flight, which caused it to return for safety concerns.
The conflict started from a quarrel after takeoff of the Air China flight and then escalated into a brawl. It had affected operation of the cabin crew, police said.
The captain then decided to return to ensure safety.
The Boeing 737 aircraft heading for Haikou in Hainan Province was then arranged to land again at the Capital International Airport an hour after its takeoff at the same airport at 6:20am, the airport authority said.
Police took away the duo involved right after the landing. The flight took off again at 10:25am and landed at Haikou at 1:38pm, 3 hours behind its scheduled arrival time.
Passenger aircraft is normally not allowed to land shortly after takeoff because the full fuel tank increases the weight of the landing aircraft and may increase fire risks during the landing.
Police did not release details of the two passengers. Some witness on the flight said in online posts that one of them was injured in the brawl with blood on the face.
