Two teens held after high school student killed
TWO teenagers killed a high school student and burned the body to cover up the crime last month in Danjiangkou City, Hubei Province, gmw.cn reported today.
Police said they have detained two suspects, one of whom had been expelled from school for illegal acts when he was 16 years old, according to the report.
The victim surnamed Li didn’t come home on May 25 after staying late at school to study. The family received a phone call the next day from a kidnapper who asked for 50,000 yuan (US$8,065) in ransom.
Li’s parents didn’t report their son was missing until May 31 because the kidnapper warned they would kill Li if they went to the police.
Police yesterday told Li’s parents that their son had been killed and that two suspects were in custody, the report said. It was unclear when the body was found.
According to police, both suspects confessed to kidnapping Li, taking him to a cave and killing him on May 25. They also admitted to dousing the body in gasoline and lighting it on fire to destroy the evidence, the report said.
One of the suspects was Li’s classmate.
The report did not say what the motive for the attack was, adding that police were still investigating the case.
