Two thugs attack fraud investigator

Fang Zhouzi, a popular science writer known for exposing frauds in China, was reportedly attacked and injured in Beijing yesterday.

Fang told reporters at a police station he had been attacked by two men in the street after a TV interview near his home at about 5pm.

One man sprayed pungent liquid on his face while the other hit him in the stomach with a hammer, Fang said.

Fang's wife wrote on his microblog at 6:19pm that Fang had just been ambushed by two gangsters.

They used a pepper spray and a hammer and he suffered slight injuries, she said.

Fang Zhouzi is known for disclosing bogus research and academic frauds in China, including the cases of Li Yi, a Taoist priest in Chongqing Municipality, and Tang Jun, former CEO of Microsoft China.
