Two-child policy just a rumor
CHINA has no plans to allow all couples to have a second child, National Health and Family Planning Commission officials said yesterday, quashing online rumors that such a measure would be introduced next month.
However, officials said the one-child policy was not fixed in stone and the most recent change that allowed couples with just one spouse from a one-child family to have a second child was not the final reform.
“We will enhance policy evaluation and population study to perfect population policy gradually,” said Song Shuli, a spokeswoman for the commission. She said the online reports were “speculation without foundation,” but added: “The initial relaxation is not the end, policy reform will continue.”
