Typhoon Nanmadol approaching Fujian Province

TYPHOON Nanmadol is moving northwestward towards east China's Fujian Province after making a landfall in Taiwan early this morning, bringing heavy rains and winds of 10 km per hour.

Taiwan's local weather bureau announced that typhoon Nanmadol made landfall on the area nearby Dawu township, Taitung county at 4:20 am today. The earliest time for typhoon Nanmadol to leave the island was expected at the midnight of today, forecasters said.

The Fujian observatory monitored Nanmadol would enter the Taiwan Strait this afternoon, approaching the southern part of Fujian.

Local authorities called 26,818 fishing vessels to harbor last night, as the weather department warned moderate to heavy downpour would hit Fujian's coastal areas from this morning.

The observatory forecast that the typhoon would coincide with an astronomical tide today, and is expected to wave up billows of 2-3.5 meters high in Fujian's coastal areas.

Local authorities are racing to evacuate people from the areas before this noon.
